July 2023/Garrison's broken hand/Todds to Hawaii/Bingo to Clinton/Garrison visits Clinton/St. Louis to see Mark

Garrison broke his hand at the Lenexa baseball tournament on Sunday - an opponent slid hard into home and knocked Garrison's catcher's mitt off his hand.  Chad was coaching, so Amanda took him to Urgent Care where they put a splint on his hand until he could go to the doctor on Tuesday - then they put a waterproof cast on it for 3 weeks.  He had it taken off 3 weeks later!

It was bad timing as the Todd family was flying to Hawaii two days later.  Amanda quickly ordered him long, waterproof sleeve/glove to wear in the ocean so that sand didn't get down in the cast - it worked.  Garrison was able to surf - and so did Peyton and Chad.  Amanda took pictures!  they had a wonderful time in Hawaii having great food, lots of relaxing on the beach and at the pool and a great room.  They flew first class and had a wonderful trip.   Bingo had a Clinton vacation and was a perfect house guest. I walked him at 5:30 a.m. each day - Ron walked him at 6:30 a.m. each day, and throughout the day, he spent time outside on his tether - he loved lying on the step and watching the golfers or in the grass.  He slept really good in his kennel - we missed him when he went home.

Peyton, Garrison and I entered exhibits in the Henry County Fair.  Peyton received a blue ribbon on her mints - Garrison a white on his race car - I received a blue/purple on poppy seed bread and a white on my counted cross stitch.  My P.E.O. sisters entered items too, and we donated our winnings to the treasury.

Sad news this month - my brother, Mark, was unable to walk and his speech was slurred, so Tom flew in from Florida and took him to the doctor and then to the ER.  They determined the cancer had metastasized to his brain (MRI was clear in April for his brain), and one tumor the size or a dried prune was pushing on the part of his brain causing him to have restricted use of his left side and causing him to slur his speech.  He was hospitalized on Monday and was discharged on Thursday.  Tom and Joe both stayed with him all week.  Ron and I went to St. Louis to see him on Monday, July 17.  His speech was much improved but he is still having difficulty walking - has to walk very slowly with a walker and with someone steadying his left side.  Sad.  I took a chicken pot pie for lunch for all of us (Tom and Joe were both there) and a chocolate sheet cake which Mark loves.  Also took poppyseed bread, banana bread, taco soup and lasagna soup as well as a green bean casserole.  Ron and I took him to the bank to add beneficiaries to his checking account and 3 CD's - the banker brought the paperwork out to the car which was very nice.

Chad had been hospitalized on Monday for blood clots in his lung, so Ron and I packed a suitcase before we went to St Louis and drove directly to Amanda's from St. Louis so we could stay with the kids if Amanda flew to Seattle for work.  She ended up not going, and Chad was discharged on Tuesday, so we stayed all day, did some laundry and a few chores around the house before we came home Tuesday.  Chad is in a lot of pain - has a mutation of his DNA #5 so will have to be on blood thinner, Eliquis, the rest of his life.  He's in a lot of pain still but is home and taking it easy.

I played the organ and sometimes the piano at church 4 Sundays in a row.

We went back to Overland Park on Thursday for me to go to the determatologist and to get my new glasses, but mostly to pick up Garrison for a visit to Clinton for his Grammy and Garrison Day, his request.  We had his favorite foods and he and Ron played golf.  We played poker and trash and watched a lot of Shark Tank and Generation Gap.  We took him home on Saturday and met Amanda and Peyton at Olive Garden for lunch before coming home.  Took my new glasses back as I didn't like the gray tint of the lenses for the non-glare.  They will order new lenses.

It's been a tough week.  So worried about Mark and Chad.  Praying God will wrap him in His arms and make good care of them.
