Peyton and Garrison had their last day of school - Peyton will be a sophomore next year, and Garrison will be in 7th grade. Peyton had 4 A's, 2 B's and a C with a weighted GPA of 3.90 out of 4.0. Garrison had straight A's. Both kids had nice notes from teachers about how much they enjoyed having them in their classes.
Ron and I started on our 10 day driving vacation to Cooperstown, NY on May 29, stopping first in St. Louis to take Joe and Nicole out to lunch. The next day we went to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH. Friday we went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH.
Amanda and Chad treated us to a beautiful room in Canada at Niagara Falls at the Marriott, overlooking the Falls. We stayed on the 16th floor and had beautiful views. We had lunch at The Keg on the 9th floor of the Embassy Suites - a yummy steak and prime rib lunch. That night, the Falls were lighted with beautiful colors, and then at 10 p.m., there was a beautiful fireworks show.
On Saturday, we met The Todds on the American Side at Niagara State Park for lunch overlooking the Falls. Garrison and Chad had to go on to Cooperstown early to check in for the tournament. Peyton and Amanda stayed with us. We took a boat ride at the bottom of the Falls on the Maid of the Mist which was so much fun - we were soaked!!!!! Then we drove on to Cooperstown and checked into our condo nearby.
Tournament fun started the next morning with opening ceremonies and parade. All the parents, grandparents and siblings had matching t-shirts. We cheered on the ABA-Piper Team (Garrison) as they entered the ballfields with the other 88 teams. The team played their first game that afternoon.
Monday morning, the team and families attended the National Baseball Hall of Fame together in Cooperstown. All 6 of us went to lunch at Coopers Barn - it was good to have some time with the boys. They played 2 games on Monday.
Tuesday they played 2 games. We had lunch at a Mexican Restaurant that was good and dinner at Mcdonald's.
Wednesday we met the boys at The Cooperstown Diner for a yummy breakfast - old school and they played at 2 p.m. We had to leave a few minutes early to take Peyton and Amanda to Albany to catch a flight back to KCI. Ron and I made it back for the 7 p.m. game.
Thursday we left a day early and drove to Cincinnati to spend the night. The next morning we drove to The Ark Encounter to see a life size replica of Noah's Ark, then we drove home, arriving at 9 p.m.
It was great spending most of the time with Amanda, Chad, Peyton and Garrison and loved being there for Garrison's experience in playing at Cooperstown. It was so special.
On Sunday, we are going to Leawood to celebrate Amanda's 43rd birthday with Peyton and Amanda. Chad and Garrison are still on the road, going to baseball games in Pittsburg and Cincinnati and then to Louisville Slugger factory in Louisville, KY before they drive home on Sunday and Monday.
We are so blessed to have the opportunity to witness Garrison's big experience at the ball tournament and to see all the Halls of Fame and Niagara Falls - a once in a lifetime experience. God is good.
