Peyton Attends Reception

After Ron and I attended the beautiful wedding of Sissy Wetzel and Derek Drysdale, it was our privilege to have Peyton join us for the reception at the Carriage Club, close to the Plaza. Amanda and Chad had dinner plans with friends, so we were thrilled to have Peyton with us for the evening. After a period of adjustment, Peyton enjoyed watching all the people, listening to the band and just hanging out at our table with our friends. Toward the end of the evening, she was even "giving 5" to Dennis and Debbie! Grammy and Grandpa enjoyed showing her off to all the Clinton folks in attendance - we are so very proud of her. Dr. Kenney - who was Amanda's doctor from birth - marveled at how much Peyton looks like Amanda did as a baby. The 3 of us left the reception around 9:00 p.m. and went to Peyton's house. She was happy to get into her pj's and to bed - around an hour and a half later than usual. Grammy and Grandpa spent the night and traveled back to Clinton on Sunday morning in time for church. We had a blast - thanks for spending your evening with us Peyton.

Grammy motored to Olathe to visit Amanda, Peyton, Chad and Apollo following Amanda's successful Lasik surgery on Friday. Amanda was feeling so good that she and Chad took the opportunity to do a little shopping without Peyton, who is less than a good shopper right now. Suited Grammy fine - Peyton and I had a blast with homemade playdough, playing with Apollo, singing and just all around fun. What a great way to spend Saturday!

Peyton - Little Girl vs. Baby

Although it had only been 2 weeks since we had seen Peyton, she sure changed a lot during that time - she is no

w a little girl, not so much a baby! She is soooooo much fun!

The kids arrived for the weekend around 9 p.m. on Friday night - Peyton had slept most of the way to Clinton. Amanda brought her in the house in her pj's - she smiled at us and went immediately to her crib and back to sleep for the night. She is such a good baby - oh, I mean little girl. (I think she will always be Grammy's baby).

Amanda, Peyton and I, along with the dogs, went to Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Mintun's house for breakfast Saturday morning. Peyton lived up to the expectations and entertained royally. She is such an industrious eater and enjoys eating so much! Fun to watch. She giggled, ran around the house and played.

All of us went out to the farm where we met up with Ron's brothers to sort through things and visit. Afterward, Amanda, Chad and Ron played golf with some of Ron's buddies while Peyton and I spent a wonderful afternoon together. We went to an auction, went back to see the great grandparents and just had fun playing. Great Grandma and I took Peyton for a short walk in her stroller which she really enjoyed. She loved running around the yard outside, chasing the dogs, etc. Peyton fought taking a nap, but she finally gave in to Grammy rocking her and holding her while she slept - what a sacrifice! HA HA Nothing better than holding that sweet little granddaughter and watching her sleep, so innocent and special.

We met all the Arthurs at Pizza Glen for dinner followed by everyone coming to our house to visit some more and giving the brothers some time to discuss plans for their mother's estate, etc. Claire, Bryan's youngest who is 6 years old is so into Peyton - they enjoy each other very much. Not the best of circumstances, but it has been nice to spend more time with the family than we have had the opportunity to do in years. Merle spent the night with us which gave us even more time to visit with him, which was nice.

On Sunday, it was back to Mintuns for breakfast for Grammy and Peyton - Amanda wasn't feeling well and went back to bed after Grammy convinced her Peyton and I would be just fine. We had a good breakfast - Peyton entertained again with her love of eating. Everyone went to church where Amanda made her Mom happy by joining me for a piano/organ duet for the prelude. The church honored Mildred as elder emeritus postumously (not sure I spelled that right) and dedicated a banner in honor of her years of service to the church. It was very nice.

Ron and Chad played golf again on Sunday afternoon with friends. Amanda, Peyton and I had an uneventful, quiet afternoon around the house, which was nice. Peyton is so busy - she loves to empty Grammy's drawers and explore whatever she can find. She is not shy about telling me what she wants - when she wants a snack and hat she wants. She is so good at her baby sign language and always signs please, which is so cute. While Amanda and I were going through some baby clothes, etc. in their bedroom downstairs, Peyton pretty much redecorated the family room downstairs, as only she can. At one point, she was sitting at the little table and chairs we have down there that were actually mine as a child, made by my Dad, and "reading" books - sooooo cute. Neither of us had our cameras downstairs - darn. Peyton teases, which is adorable.

What a glorious weekend - just sad it had to end. Anxious for the next one.

Peyton started her new school on Monday and did well.

The Grammy business is still wonderful - we are so blessed to have the most special daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter ever!
