Mid-June 2019 - Arthur Brothers/Weekend with Kids
Busy Week! I took Ron to Belton on Monday to meet Merle for the start of Arthur Brothers Golf Week. Bryan drove down from Minnesota that afternoon to join them. They played at Tiffany Greens in NKC on Tuesday - Pertle Springs in Warrensburg on Wednesday - traveled to Clinton to spend the night and then played Meadowlake on Thursday before Merle and Bryan went back to NKC. Bryan then drove home on Friday. It was nice to get to visit with Merle and Bryan for an extended time - it had been a long time.
We went to Overland Park Saturday morning for Garrison's baseball game, then we stayed with the kids while Amanda and Chad went to dinner and to see Hamilton with friends and stayed at the Marriott downtown for a belated anniversary weekend. We had a great time with the kids, although the rain kept us from going to the KC Zoo on Sunday morning as planned. Garrison's baseball game scheduled for Sunday afternoon was even cancelled due to the wet fields. There was quite a storm Saturday night. We wanted to take them to see a movie, bowling or something else fun, but they wanted to stay home after shopping at Target, Bed, Bath and Beyond and Bath and Body Works. They had fun making slime in changeable colors. We played several card games and board games then went to Burger King for dinner. We had lunch at Chipotle (by request both places) and after dinner went to Dairy Queen for an ice cream treat. We also picked up a few items at Hyvee.
Since we couldn't go to the zoo, we went to Duck Donuts for breakfast - took us over 20 minutes to get there, but it was with the trip! Made to order donuts - warm and yummy. The kids loved it. After we got back to the house, we had fun watching a movie, playing cards, practicing their music lessons, Peyton and I practiced Heart and Soul, and ate leftovers out of the refrigerator for lunch. We had a lot of fun.
Another fun week of retirement for Ron - we are blessed.

Father's Day Weekend 2019
Amanda, Chad, Peyton and Garrison celebrated her birthday a little late since she was in Seattle on her "real" birthday with dinner at Rye - sounds like they had a really good time Friday night.
The kids had a swim meet on Wednesday - they both swam a few races and had a good time. Their swim team picture shows that their team is very large - their individual pictures in their team suits are adorable.
Ron had another good week of retirement - playing tennis and golf several days. He also accomplished some household tasks such as washing the windows on the outside. It finally quit raining long enough to get that done.
We drove to Overland Park Saturday morning, stopping at Hyvee for their bargains before going on to Amanda's before Garrison's baseball game at 10:30 a.m. They had team pictures early, so we met them at the game. Garrison continued to have a hot bat, getting on base and driving in some runs every time he was up to bat. He had a collision with the second baseman when he was running from first to second which brought him off the field for the rest of the inning, but he was right back at it the next inning. It was cool and there was a nice breeze - a delightful morning.
After the game, we all went to Coco Bolos to celebrate Father's Day a day early. We nor the little people had been there - it was very tasty Mexican.
We played some card games at Amanda's after the game and before Amanda's volleyball match. She served well and had a good time during the 3 games - they won one. Garrison went to a sleepover birthday party and Peyton had the sister of the birthday boy for a sleepover Saturday night.
I played the organ at both services Sunday at church since Sam was out of town. It went well. I fixed Ron fried pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy and strawberry shortcake for his Father's Day lunch, and we watched the Golf US Open on TV. A laid back day.
Another wonderful family weekend - God is good, and we are blessed.

First week of June 2019
Peyton and Garrison had their first swim meet. Garrison didn't get to compete because he had been in Boy Scout Day Camp all week. Peyton swam two relays and individual Butterfly. She won two 4th place ribbons and was very proud of them. Garrison loved camp and made some amazing things and learned lots. Chad attended with him on the first and last days. It was a good week.
On Saturday, we went to Overland Park and started with Peyton's sand volleyball game. They had a good time, and the weather was very nice. Chad and Garrison went to swim team practice so he could compete next Wednesday. We all met at Q39 BBQ for lunch to celebrate Amanda's birthday. It was a yummy lunch.
After lunch, we took the kids home while Amanda and Chad went shopping for her birthday present from Chad, a new dress for the play Hamilton and a stay at the downtown Marriott for their anniversary in a couple of weeks. We had a good time playing an Owl game and Mauw, a card game Adara, the new nanny, taught them. They had fun rough housing with Grandpa too. When they got home from shopping, we had chocolate birthday pie and sang Happy Birthday to Amanda.
Amanda and I took Garrison to a birthday party and then shopped for her a new printer. We had a good visiting while waiting for him. Peyton had a friend, Kate, arrive for a sleepover while we were gone. Amanda fixed chicken strips, cucumbers and sweet potato fries for a quick dinner before we all went to Garrison's baseball game.
Garrison played catcher 3 of the 5 innings and went 2 for 2 in hitting. He got the new black stuff for under his eyes and felt pretty invincible. He's developing into a great little baseball player. Chad is a great coach. They won 6-5 and were thrilled.
We went to church on Sunday and are having biscuits and gravy and strawberry shortcake for lunch. Getting hungry!
We are blessed!!!

Last week of May - First 2 days of June 2019
It was a busy social week. Tuesday night we went to the Eaton's for a birthday BBQ for Suzanne Ammons. The Sieger's attended as well - we had a lovely evening visiting and delicious food. Wednesday we went to a reception for our minister and his wife, Brad and Raven Reed as they are moving to Springfield. He has Kennedy's disease and Muscular Dystrophy and is taking early disability (he's 57). Their families are nearby in Springfield which will be good for them. On Thursday, I went to a luncheon hosted by Debbie Sieger at noon for Raven Reed and that evening went to a P.E.O. Spring Social Game Night which was a lot of fun. It had been a long time since I had played Yahtzee - I may have to play with the grandkids!!!!
Ron had a good 3rd week of retirement. He played tennis 2 times and golf once, having a lot of fun.
Friday was when the real fun began. We traveled to Overland Park to attend Garrison's baseball tournament - his team played two games. He played catcher and shortstop. They did not win, but they improved in the second game. Unfortunately, their first 3 regular games had been rained out, so this was the first time they had played since last Fall. Ron ate at Freddy's and shopped at Hyvee on the way up. We had fun spending time with the family. Peyton and her friends - all sisters of Garrison and his teammates - shopped at Old Navy for matching outfits to cheer on their team in the team colors of the Regulators!!!! So fun.
We returned on Sunday for more tournament play - game at 9:30 a.m. We stopped by the house to pick up Peyton and Amanda (the games were at ball fields in Shawnee that Tom Mintun played at when he was a youngster and Amanda and Chad had gone there to watch him play). We stopped by to get fancy iced coffees on the way. Garrison's bat was on fire - 3 for 3, and he caught one inning and played second base the other innings, however, they were outmatched and did not win, so their tournament play was over. The other team was obviously a little older and more experienced, but the boys tried hard.
After the game, we had an early (11:30 a.m., so not too early) lunch together at Olive Garden before coming home for a nap!!! Then we went to Dessert Club at the Townsends for an evening of brownies and ice cream and visiting. A big week for these retired folks.
We are so blessed - God is good!!!!
