This past week started out on Sunday with me playing the organ at both church services. On Wednesday, I went to the dermatologist for my annual full body mole check - all good! I stopped by Amanda's before my appointment to pick up the kids' suitcases, and she was working from home that day, so I had a nice visit with her beforehand. After my appointment, I picked up Peyton and Garrison at All Around Child to bring them back to Clinton with me for the start of our 5 days of fun and excitement for Olde Glory Days.
We stopped at McDonald's not he way home - imagine that! Garrison sang a song from music class on the way home - I was expecting something like Old McDonald Had a Farm but to my surprise, he sang all the words of "Hit the Road Jack" - too funny. So cute. Peyton talked about her recent field trip to Royals Stadium which sounded like fun - touring the dugout and getting to go onto the field. She has had lots of fun field trips from AAC this year.
Thursday morning, Grandpa took them to Donut Palace to pick up donuts for breakfast. They both helped me fix some food for the weekend, played card games with both of us, and just giggled and giggled. Ron went to Rotary for lunch, so the kids and I made a visit to McDonald's. They love to sit up high, so that is what we did. Peyton did a great job of ordering their dessert and paying by herself (I could see her the whole time). We rented a movie at the Redbox for Peyton to watch while Garrison napped. After nap time, we all went to Olde Glory Days to see Woody's Animal Menagerie - pig races and dog races and then got to view the Ligers (a mix of tiger and lion) - they were big!!!! Before we viewed the Ligers, Amanda and Chad arrived on the scene and were able to see them with us. Afterward, we all went to the Sponsor's Dinner held this year as a come and go at the Elks - great brisket, cheesy potatoes, green beans, roll and dessert. Delicious! There was entertainment there for the kids - The Fishin Magician who spent about 10-15 minutes with our little ones showing them tricks, making things disappear, etc. They were mesmerized and enjoyed it very much. Then it was time for tattoos (air brushed) and carnival rides. We got them armbands so they could ride as many times as their little hearts desired - and they got their money's worth! The dragon roller coaster, the swings, etc. and Peyton and her parents rode The Spider - Amanda wished she hadn't! We saw friends there and had some nice visits. The kids also rode the ponies and believe it or not, the mechanical bull! Neither one was thrown off, and they loved it. We had homemade root beer and so much fun. The kids stayed up way past their bedtime.
Friday morning, it was more OGD fun! We all went to the cardboard boat races at the public swimming pool and had a good time. Then it was off to Optimist Park for the Fishin Magician Show, hotdogs and the Rubber Duckie Races. The kids also enjoyed playing on the playground equipment there - even the tornado slide. Home for lunch and rest time - everyone napped! Back to OGD after dinner at El Camino Real for more carnival rides and playing games - both kids are pretty good at breaking balloons with darts! They won prizes which pleased them. They rode the ponies again and rode on David Mills' MKT train with Grammy and Grandpa which was fun. We looked at the Ligers again and visited the Hospitality Room for a cookie before going home - a little bit earlier Friday night.
Saturday morning as we were all getting dressed for the parade, Peyton told me she wasn't feeling well. We got to the bathroom sink where she threw up a couple of times. She was sick several times before the decision was made she had probably not go to the parade. She wanted her Mommy to stay with her - I couldn't blame her - I wanted my Mom with me when I was sick even when I was in my 50's! Garrison and I took Grandpa for his meeting point for the parade, as he was driving the bank float entry, and then we went up to Edward Jones to join our friends to watch the parade. Chad joined in the fun a little later. Garrison had a great time picking up candy and putting it in his basket. Ron joined us to watch the end of the parade after he was finished going through. We came home to have lunch of ham sammies, weenies wrapped in bacon, cowboy bacon, veggies, chips, etc. Peyton was feeling better by the time we got home, thankfully. Chad and Amanda played golf around 1:30 p.m. while the old folks and the little folks rested. Grandpa took Garrison and Peyton and their clubs over to the 16th green to meet their parents and to finish out the course around 4 pm. They all came back in time for dinner of brisket, fresh green beans and potatoes, homemade rolls, etc. before we had fun outside with water balloons. Showers and to bed on time!
After a quick breakfast, we were sad to see the Todds go back to Overland Park but understood they had things to do to get ready for the work week. We had an absolutely wonderful time over the Olde Glory Days weekend and were so happy they could spend the entire time with us. We had so much fun.
Ron and I are going to the fireworks display with The Siegers tonight - kind of late for us old folks, but I guess we will make it!
We are blessed beyond measure and have so many wonderful family memories. This was our first 4th of July, Olde Glory Days without Mom - she had a great time with us the past few years taking in all the fun. Peyton talked about that several times throughout the weekend. Miss you Mom - and Daddy too!
