Water Damage Nightmare and Memorial Day Weekend 2018
After having shingles on our driveway and on the roof for 5 weeks, they finally started our roof on Tuesday, 5/15 - only 2 guys worked Ties-Friday, and a couple of guys on Saturday for 2 hours before the rains started. They told us they had the roof secured (few shingles on it) so it would not leak. NOT. The big rains came Saturday night/Sunday morning, and the leaks started. We thought we only had 3 little leaks - not even dripping - on Sunday and called the roofer. He sent a couple of guys to put on more tarps - then more rains. Monday morning, the roofer called Servpro to come to assess the leaking damage and to start drying things out. It went downhill from there. They found more and more leaks every day - had to suck out all the insulation in our ceilings/attics, more water would appear as they removed insulation. One of the guys stepped through the ceiling over my piano leaving a 2 ft. x 2 ft. hole but didn't fall all the way through and didn't damage the piano. Then a big crack appeared in the ceiling close to the hole. They brought around 30-35 fans and dehumidifiers to put around the main floor and the upstairs bedroom - talk about LOUD and HOT. Thankfully, we did not have damage in our bedroom so we had a cool room in which to sleep, and the downstairs was dry, so we watched TV at night down there.
On Saturday, I got up to make some rice krispy treats for the kids since the Todds were coming Saturday-Sunday for a visit. i picked up my wood recipe box to get the recipe out and the bottom fell out of the box - soaked with water and warped. Then I assessed the situation and found water in 3 drawers, under the sink, the rug in front of the sink was soaked - water everywhere - didn't know where it came from. Called RC from Servpro and he was here by 6:30 a.m. We threw away what was not salvageable and boxed up what we could. Had to wash all the clean towels and dishcloths and aprons - soaked. It was a continuation of the nightmare that had been going on at that point for 7 days. It's like a black cloud is hanging over our house!!!!!
Servpro stayed for 4 hours - a couple more guys came. They cut two holes in the soffett over the kitchen sink - that whole softest will be taken out on Tuesday and will have to be re drywalled. It is all soaked. We hope the wood floors aren't damaged .
Talked to Carla with American Family. She told us we could go to the Hampton Inn if we wanted to and they would pay for it. She told us to eat out while kitchen out of commission and keep receipts - American Family will pay for it. She said American Family will get our house back in commission eventually. Adjuster is coming on Tuesday.
Servpro gave us a break for 24 hours from the fans and dehumidifiers since we were having company. They are sending a guy to set some more of the fans/dehumidifiers on Sunday to run for a few more days. It was nice to have a break from them.
On a happier note, Amanda/family arrived around 10 a.m. They all went to play golf - Peyton and Amanda quit after 3 holes to spend time with me. We went to El Puerto for lunch. The guys including Garrison only played 9 holes and went to lunch at Mallards. We all regrouped at home - the kids and I watched a movie for them to relax. Amanda and Chad went to look at new vehicles and to find Garrison's sun glasses. We all went to Courtyard for dinner and enjoyed the quiet and the cool - prime rib and ribeye steaks. It was good. We played hangman, trash, play nine - just had a fun time. Amanda washed up the rags and all the wet towels, etc. - she was a lot of help.
Sunday morning the Todds went to the lake to spend the day with Chad's parents at their lake house. Ron and I cleaned house and cleaned up the yard a bit.
Sunday I am going to the movie to see Book Club with Debbie Sieger and Suzanne Ammons for Suzanne's birthday. Monday, Ron is playing golf with his buddies. Debbie is bringing us roast beef and noodles for lunch.
The adjuster is coming Tuesday. Hopefully we can start getting things repaired soon. I have had quite a bit of pain and nausea after this last treatment, but I think the stress from the roof has caused part of the problems.
Hoping for a better week!

Mother's Day 2018
4th chemo treatment was Tuesday. Last AC treatment - next four will be Taxol. I've been nauseous and very tired this time. Bones have not hurt. Have to take a couple of supplements to get ready for Taxol - one is Glutamine which is the most awful powder stuff that does not dissolve. Mixed it with applesauce this morning - thought I was going to gag for a couple of hours afterward. Going to try it in OJ with pulp tonight. Twice a day stuff!
Amanda, Peyton and Garrison came to Clinton on Mother's Day - made my day for sure. They gave me an Apple Watch - trying to learn about it and get used to it. Had a good day playing Go Fish, Candyland, Play Nine and they played downstairs with Grandpa. Garrison played the piano - his self-taught songs - ha ha. Amanda played the piano for me too - really enjoyed.
Ron and Amanda went to Walmart to get our lunch at the deli - fried chicken and all the fixings. It was delicious. I had attempted to make homemade ice cream, but our freezer had rusted in the bucket where the cylinder fits on it, and it wouldn't turn it. I looked on Google and put it in the freezer in a 9 x 13 to freeze. Not as good, but okay. I had made Mom's homemade fudge sauce which was a hit and had some other toppings. We had a great day.
Garrison tried on "Gabby" - my wig. He thought he was quite something. I remember Tom putting on one of Amanda's dresses and a red wig when he was out Garrison's age - for Halloween I think.
We are blessed!

First Week of May 2018
The one picture is of Amanda's transplanted peonies from 810 - they are looking great! Mine are actually going to bloom this year but aren't as nice as Amanda's - she has the touch!
The tree picture is of Garrison climbing the tree in his back yard - the highest he has ever gone! He actually came down too without incident!
The picture of the Mark Mintun family was after Steve Underwood's funeral (Elizabeth's husband, Mary's brother-in-law). Mark, Mary, Joe and Tom make a good looking family! Nicole, Joe's girlfriend, was unable to attend but is an important part of the family. Mark and Mary had driven to Clinton to visit with us last Sunday for the afternoon and brought a delicious chocolate pie. We had a wonderful visit with them and were so pleased they came!
Now for the week! On Tuesday, I went with Debbie Sieger to the Amish greenhouses and the Amish store in Windsor. Debbie found many flowers to plant - we decided not to plant any annuals this year due to my treatments and the watering issue. But, I found several things to buy at the Amish store. We had a good morning and were home before lunch. Nice to get out of the house.
Went to a moving sale on Thursday with Kelly. The sale was of Glenna Smith who we worked with for many years at DFS. We saw several people we knew and had a good time - even found a few treasures to purchase! It was fun.
Ron and I went to Walmart on Saturday morning very early to purchase a new grill. Ours had bit the dust after many faithful years of service - ha ha. On our way home, Mike Edgett was outside so we stopped and picked him up to help Ron unload the grill and to load the old one for disposal. Since they had a big dumpster at their house, Mike was kind enough to allow us to dispose of ours at his house! Win-win. I went to Aldi later in the morning to get a few items and then back to the moving sale for 1/2 price but didn't find anything. Not many customers so stayed for about an hour and caught up with Glenna and Jeff - nice visit. Ron was playing golf.
Peyton and Amanda ran in the Girls on the Run 5K Run by the Legends. Peyton was so proud of her medal and her time, 38 minutes and 11 seconds - a better time than last year. We are very proud of her and her Momma for running! She also had her face painted and had her hair sprayed with color! Garrison played soccer that morning, so Chad was with him, and they didn't get to attend this year.
Sunday we went to church and stayed for donut time. We enjoyed visiting with our friends. Came home to change clothes and off to OP. Stopped at Kohl's for returns then picked Peyton up at the soccer fields where Amanda and Garrison were for Garrison's instructional league event and took her to lunch with us. We wanted to go to Salty Iguana, but she had eaten there last night, so we went to Culver's instead. My fried butterfly shrimp were delicious! Then we went to Scheel's to buy Peyton some new Under Armor tennis shoes she was wanting. Met Amanda and Garrison at the soccer fields for his recreational league match at 1 p.m. Of course, his match was at the farthest field from the parking lot - quite a walk - but we enjoyed the match. Poor little guy was so hot and tired already after playing since 11:30 a.m. With not a bit of shade, it was quite hot and humid but we enjoyed watching him play. We all went to Dairy Queen afterward for peanut buster parfaits and blizzards - the place was packed! A beautiful day spent with family! Chad was playing in a golf tournament and we didn't get to see him this time.
I have felt good most of the week - haven't even had to take nausea medicine since Friday. Will work my volunteer job at church tomorrow and then to my 4th chemo treatment on Tuesday - half way!
Amanda/family are coming for Mother's Day next Sunday - looking forward to their visit.
We are so blessed - God is good.
