Memorial Day Weekend 2013
Our Memorial Day Weekend started by Grammy and Grammaw traveling to Overland Park to pick up our sweet little folks, Peyton and Garrison, and bringing them back to Clinton with us for the weekend. Their parents had some appliance shopping to do - easier without 4 extra helping hands, ha ha - and went out to dinner to celebrate their upcoming 11th wedding anniversary. We were the big winners to get the kids! Peyton slept most of the way home, and Garrison and Grammaw seemed to enjoy "talking" with each other - he was good!
We arrived in Clinton around 4:30 p.m. and played a bit before enjoying our dinner meal outside on the patio - per Peyton's request. She loves to eat outside. They played on the Little Tykes slide and enjoyed the outdoors before we came in for baths and a snack. Garrison always wants to go with Grandpa to take Grammaw home - and Saturday night was not an exception. As we usually do when Amanda and Chad are not here, Peyton and I slept downstairs in their room so will be close to Garrison. Both children slept well.
Sunday we had a quick breakfast and got ready for church. Garrison had other ideas than his Mommy and I had for him to wear to church - guess who won - Garrison wore what he wanted, which was fine. Peyton looked beautiful in her pink searsucker dress and white sandals. I played the piano for gathering time at church - about 25 minutes - and Peyton was my helper! As I finished playing a piece, she would take the music and stack it up on the front pew. She was so excited to be "helping" Grammy - and it was heartwarming for me to have her there with me. After church,l we all went to donut time - a big hit for the kids, and our friends all enjoyed seeing them.
We picked up Grammaw right after church - making Peyton quite thrilled - and we came home and filled the wading pool for some water time fun. While the water was warming up, Peyton, Grammaw and I ran some errands to Walgreens, Westlake and ending at McDonald's to pick up lunch - which we ate outside again. While Garrison took a nap, Peyton and put together a new puzzle - but, she didn't need my help at all. She didn't even look at the picture and put it together completely by herself. We played Go Fish and watched a movie, then after Garrison woke up, they put on their suits to play in the pool, etc. We also hooked up the Hello Kitty Sprinkler which Peyton liked, but Garrison wasn't such a big fan. He really liked going down the slide into the pool and getting in and out of it. we also played yard darts. Amanda and Chad arrived for the rest of the weekend while we were outside. Chad did a little chipping on the #3 green with Garrison's help.
Chad grilled our dinner of steaks and brats for us. We also had grilled asparagus, corn on the cob and a fruit pizza which Peyton and Garrison helped Grammaw make - it was delicious and beautiful.
On Monday after breakfast, Grandpa and Garrison went to get Grammaw, and then the guys took off for the golf course to play with Mike and Dennis. We took the kids up to visit them on the #3 green when they arrived there which was fun. Amanda, Grammaw, Grammy and the kids went to our church playground and had great fun - both kids are great climbers, and Peyton is doing great swinging herself. We stopped by Grammaw's house where the kids had a yummy snack of peaches and mandarin oranges.
We came back and played for a while before lunch. Peyton and Grammaw had a blast playing downstairs and Garrison joined in part of the time. Garrison helped Grammaw make guacamole for lunch. The guys golf game was shortened by rain, and then the Todds went back to Overland Park.
We had such a wonderful weekend. Earlier in the week, Ron, Peggy and Grammaw went to the cemetery to decorate graves. Grammaw and Peggy went back a couple of times later in the week to visit Grandpa Mintun's grave. We miss him.

Picnic in Overland Park - 2013
On Sunday, 5/19/2013, Grammy, Grandpa and Grammaw traveled to Overland Park to spend the day with Amanda, Peyton and Garrison (Chad was playing golf in a tournament, but we had a few seconds to say "hi" to him before he left which was nice. Shortly after we arrived, we fixed corn on the cob to go with the picnic we took with us of chicken salad, tuna salad and pbj sandwiches, etc. Grammaw had fixed chocolate pudding to top off our delicious meal. We ate outside on the new patio. Peyton loves corn on the cob and did a great job of finishing her ear. It was Garrison's first attempt, and he did pretty good. While Garrison napped, Peyton, Mommy and Grammy made cake balls and cupcakes. Our little "Queen of the Kitchen" does a fantastic job of cracking the eggs, pouring, decorating, etc. - she's quite a little cook and baker. Garrison loves the new playset - as does Peyton - and he goes down the slide on his belly only. He climbed the rock wall (with a little assistance from Grandpa) but still won't swing. Peyton is doing great at swinging and is getting better and better at pumping her legs.
We had lots of fun doing things with the kids while Amanda went for a run in the humid weather - she's dedicated! Apollo and Murray had a good time too.

Mother's Day Weekend 2013
Ron and I went to KC on Friday, May 10 for doctors' appointments and picked up Amanda for lunch. We ate at Five Guys and had a nice lunch time together.
On Saturday, I went to Overland Park to celebrate an early Mother's Day with my favorite people - Amanda, Peyton and Garrison. Chad was playing golf in Iowa. We had a full day, including a trip to Deanna Rose Children's Farm where Peyton rode the pony, they both fed bottles of milk to the baby goats, they played on the playground, we took a hayride, and numerous other fun things. We had lunch at Culver's - yummy burgers and fries and a delicious concrete! While Garrison napped, the "girls" played Crazy 8's, watered flowers outside, etc. After he woke up, Peyton wanted to go to the mall, so we loaded up the car and ventured over to Oak Park Mall where we all rode the carousel and shopped at the Disney Store. Of course, we found some fun things there! We stopped at McDonald's on our way home for a bite to eat and also enjoyed strawberries and dip - yummo. We played outside on their new playset and had lots of laughter and fun outside.
The kids made me a lovely hot pad with their handprints on it - I love it and have it displayed in the kitchen.
On Sunday, Ron and I went to church and then to Mom's for Mother's Day lunch. Mark and Tom had arrived in Clinton on Saturday for the weekend visit, and we all enjoyed fried chicken and peach pie.
A good Mother's Day weekend, full of family memories.
