A busy September!!!!! Garrison was so excited about playing football - finally - and boy, did he do it well. He was one of 3 players of the game for the first game where he played quarterback and linebacker - scored 14 of the 21 points for the win. We watched the game and were so proud. He was recognized at the Blue Valley Northwest Football game along with his fellow players of the game, walking on the field and being introduced over the loud speaker. We were there for that as well, and so very proud. Unfortunately, his middle school football career was over as quickly as it started. His second game was cancelled due to heat on Tuesday and lightening on Thursday - we were there for those too! He was injured playing baseball and is sidelined for 6 weeks - the rest of the season. So sad for him.
Back to the 10 days. Amanda and Chad traveled to Croatia and Ireland for her presentation to the board meeting of T-Mobile then pleasure in Dublin on the way back home. They had a great time. While they were gone, Ron and I spent a glorious (mostly) 10 days staying with Peyton and Garrison. So great. Peyton is so self-sufficient and drives herself to all her activities.
On the first day, Amanda had arranged for Peyton and me to have mani-pedis - what fun!!!! So relaxing and great thing to do with Peyton. Peyton and I shopped a little too, and Garrison and Grandpa met us at Culver's for lunch afterward, During the 10 days, we had a lot of their favorite foods - BBQ meatballs, taco bar, chicken fettuccini Alfredo, homemade rolls, hot bread, Mac and cheese, rice, strawberries, corn, so many favorites.
Ron drove Garrison to school each day and home - to his baseball practices - to weight lifting - baseball tournament games - football game. We went to the BVNW football game to see Garrison be introduced but also Peyton cheer and march in the marching band. Such a great night - beautiful weather and all.
Also during this week, baby Jomar Mintun had surgery to put in a feeding tube to help him gain weight. Tom and Janine are doing a great job parenting him - prayers he will thrive.
During the baseball game on day 10, Garrison hit a foul ball off of a high inside fastball which came off the bat and hit him in the eye. Our hearts left our bodies as we watched him doubled over in pain on the field with his coach helping him, telling him to breathe. It became apparent he could not continue playing so went to the dugout. I used great restraint and didn't rush to the dug out, but Peyton did, and I followed. He had great care from Dr. Emily Worthington, a baseball mom, and several nurses in the stands. Everyone was so kind to him and to us. On Emily's recommendation, we took him to Overland Park Regional ER. After a CT scan and exam, it was determined he had several small. bones fractured around the orbit of his eye, however, it was not felt he would need surgery or any damage to his eye. Praise God. We were there 3 1/2 hrs - which wasn't bad - then I took him home, and he showered and felt some better. His eye was completely swollen shut with cuts and bruising. Melissa Piper, another baseball mom, brought us Olive Garden for dinner. He ate well, and we all discussed the day's events and laughed, which was good. He and Peyton went out on the deck to continue discussing things. So sweet.
Amanda and Chad arrived home about 8:15 that night. We had been in touch with them the whole time through texting on the plane, and they called Garrison and me when they landed in Chicago. Technology is wonderful these days.
Amanda and Chad took Garrison to see a oculoplastics specialist the next day. He said no surgery at this time and not expected, no damage to his eye but the broken bones around. No sports for 6 weeks. No band for 3 weeks. Garrison decided to go back to school on Tuesday so he wouldn't get behind. He is feeling okay and is in good spirits. Blessed.
Chad reports he can open his eye a little bit on day 3 -
