Ron's 66th Birthday and More

Another week of radiation down - but only four treatments due to the machine being broken down on Thursday.  Bummer.   Will just add another treatment on the end.

Ron and I headed for treatment #14 on Friday morning - and good news - the machine was fixed.  I also had my first of three gel or lubricant shots in my left (good) knee.  We were thrilled we got to pick up the kids as walkers.  They were excited to see us and surprised.  When we arrived at their house, their Mom was already home and on a conference call - they were excited to see her early too!  Garrison and I played a quick few games of matching, then all 3 of us played Spot It for a couple of games.

Ron chose Q39 for them to take us to for his birthday supper (BBQ).  The 5 of us met Chad there as he was running late from work and his office was close to Q39.  It was a busy place, but Amanda had made reservations for us at 5:30 p.m.  We had delicious onion straws and another appetizer before getting our meals which were delicious!!!!  Garrison's macaroni and cheese was so delicious - he let me taste it!

After dinner, Amanda and Chad needed to do a little shopping without little people help, so we took the kids and went to Orange Leaf for ice cream.  We didn't have much time when we got home before bedtime, so it was a bath for Peyton and a shower for Garrison, and then to bed.  Garrison let me read him two books - he loves to be read to.  They both said the Lord's Prayer for their bedtime prayer and did great with it.  So proud of them and their parents.

Saturday morning, Amanda fixed scrambled eggs and pancakes for breakfast before we all went to the soccer match at 9 a.m.  Garrison played well.  It was overcast most of the match with a nice breeze.  Home for a bit, then to Olive Garden for lunch.

After lunch, the girls all went to get mani-pedis (Grammy only got a manicure), and the boys went home to rest and pay video games (Garrison and Grandpa) before it was time for Garrison's baseball game at 3 p.m.  Grammy opted out since it was a 100 degree "comfort" index, but everyone else went.  After the game, we came home.

Church on Sunday - I played the gathering music and the hymns with Sam.  I baked Ron a cherry pie for his birthday dessert (his favorite), and made biscuits and gravy for lunch.

Going to Amanda's tomorrow after radiation and staying two nights.  Garrison plays baseball Tuesday night, and I get to take Peyton to piano lessons, so will be a good time.  Will come home after radiation on Wednesday.

God is good - we are blessed.

First Half of August 2018

I've neglected my blog and will attempt to catch up.  August has been radiation month.  I started August 6 and have had 10 treatments so far.  Ron and I stayed in Overland Park August 6, 7 and 8 and spent the night with the Todds.  We had fun with the kids, taking them for lunch, etc.  Peyton went to radiation with us for the second one and even met with the doctor with us.  Garrison was at baseball camp - we had taken him earlier, and Madison picked him up.

The next week, I spent Monday night with the Todds after going to radiation that morning and spending the rest of the day with Amanda and the kids.  Amanda took the day off.  We had lunch at Chipotle and ice cream at Freezing Moo.  The kids went with Amanda to the school for Snoop Night to meet the teacher and for Amanda to sell school emblem clothes - she's PTA president this year.  Chad joined them around 4:30 p.m. to go with them to meet their teachers.  Garrison has Mrs. Kenney - Peyton has Mrs. Baird - 1st and 4th grades.  Where does the time go?  That night, Peyton had gymnastics and Garrison had his first baseball game of the Fall season.  He had two good hits and played good in the field while Amanda and I were there, but we had to leave early to pick up Peyton at gymnastics.

Tuesday morning, Madison came to stay with the kids - Amanda flew to New Orleans for work - and I went to radiation then drove home.  Radiation and resting is pretty much what I did the rest of the week until Friday.

Ron went with me to radiation on Friday.  We went to Olive Garden for lunch.  After the kids and Amanda got home, we went to Qboda for Mexican for dinner.  Chad went to a coach's meeting at a local bar - hmmmm - maybe not too much meeting, just having fun!

We spent the night with Todds - the smoke detector went off twice - Chad went up in the attic but no smoke or fire so all was well.  Peyton was wigged out so she slept the rest of the night with Amanda.  Garrison was unaffected - went back to bed.

On Saturday morning, Chad went to play in a golf tournament.  The rest of us went to Garrison's soccer match before we went to Culvers for lunch, then we came home.

Sunday we went to church.  I did laundry, baked muffins for Garrison for the freezer and made bread pudding.  Now I'm resting for the rest of the day.

13 more radiation treatments to go - then I will be done.

Feeling grateful and blessed to be back out and and about and feeling good.  God is good.
