President's Day Weekend in Clinton - 2015
Our fabulous weekend started on Friday morning, 2/13/2015, when Grammaw and Grammy traveled to Overland Park to spend the day with Peyton at her house (she was out of school). We had a great time making crafts, playing games - Minnie Mouse Bingo and Princess Yahtzee were our favorites - then we went to Freddy's for lunch - sitting "up high" of course and sharing a dirt and worm sundae - large by Peyton's request - for dessert. We ran a couple of errands before going back to the house, then we packed and got ready to go to Garrison's Valentine's Party at school. He was so happy to see us and enjoyed us being there for the festivities, after which we all drove to Clinton for a fun-filled weekend!
When we arrived in Clinton, we unloaded their things and then headed to CHS for the court warming basketball game. They said it was the first basketball game they had ever went to and were quite impressed by the Pep Band because their Mommy used to play in that band, liked the Cardi-Bird, and of course the basketball games and the crowning of the king and queen. They had candy and popcorn and enjoyed the evening very much.
Grammy, Peyton and Garrison all slept together in Grammy and Grandpa's king-size bed which is a blast. Garrison is so happy to be sleeping in underwear instead of a pull up, and he stayed dry all three nights. As soon as they woke up each morning they ran upstairs to wake up Grammaw and woke up Grandpa in the front bedroom. They are so adorable.
On Saturday, we took our time getting around, having breakfast in front of the TV and playing some games before heading to the KDKD Home Show at the Benson Center. Their favorite thing was the Cowboy Kate exhibit (a party clown) where she gave them each a balloon art of choice - Garrison a sword and Peyton a heart with a dog on it. They loved them. They had a good time filling their bags with "free" stuff and thought the chocolate chip cookie from Vansant-Mills was yummy. We had a good time visiting with several people, then headed back home.
We tried for quite a while to all take a nap together with no success. As soon as I gave up and let them get up, I rocked Garrison and he fell asleep immediately for about an hour. Peyton and Grandpa and Grammaw played Crazy 8's and the matching game.
During the day on Saturday, we made chocolate bowls by blowing up small balloons and dipping them in almond bark, letting them reset and then breaking the balloon. Peyton thought this was great fun, and yummy too. We had sundaes in them for lunch, then we made more and had fruit in them for dinner! We also made Valentine cupcakes which we shared with the Siegers, the next door neighbors and my walking partner, Esther. They chose blue Frozen frosting which made them unique. Garrison liked putting the liners in the pans the best.
On Sunday, we went to church. The kids were good in church but decided to go to the nursery before the sermon (I don't think Grandpa was too disappointed about that). They had a great time having donuts at donut time and running around in the gym while we visited with friends. Ron had to work at the bank's booth at the home show in Sunday from 11-1 p.m. Kelly came over to visit with the kids for a bit before lunch. They requested spaghetti for lunch and ate great - having peas, fruit in chocolate bowls, spaghetti and Hawaiian rolls. Garrison fell asleep much better for his nap on Sunday, sleeping a couple of hours. Peyton and I had a good time playing games and finishing up her pot holder, which she gave to me. I have it proudly displayed in the kitchen. She is doing so much better making them by herself. Garrison and I worked on his a little more, but he loses interest pretty quickly. Maybe we will have his first one done by the time he turns 4!
We went to Wendy's for dinner Sunday evening. We all had a good time - even Grammaw! After baths, we headed to bed pretty early. Garrison kept wanting to "touch" Peyton, which wasn't welcomed. I told him to come over by me and touch me. He was so cute and said, "I'll come over there and touch you, but I'm still going to touch her". What a stinker.
Monday morning brought snow! Grammaw needed to go to rehab, so Ron took the kids to The Donut Palace for breakfast while I took Mom to rehab. On the way, the check engine light came on the Jeep, so I called Ron. He had had the Jeep to Raysik's Friday for the same thing, so he told me to drop Grammaw off at rehab (I usually stay with her, but she was a trooper), and to come to Donut Palace to trade places and vehicles with him, and he would take the Jeep to get it fixed before we took it to Overland Park to take the kids home (needed 4 wheel drive). The snow kept coming down quite heavily. The kids and I headed home but could not get up the hill going up to our house - we tried 5 times. :The kids thought that was funny but they were very good during the ordeal. We took the van and ourselves over to Grammaw's house and asked Ron to pick us up there before we went to get Grammaw at rehab. We left the van there. Picked up Grammaw and all headed home in the loaner vehicle from Raysik's (4 wheel drive) because they couldn't get to the Jeep, and we didn't want to try going to KC in the van with the snow coming down so heavily. The kids thought it was an adventure and were good. We came to the house (4 wheel drive went right up the hill) and packed them up and decided to take Grammaw over to her house for the day in case the snow got worse during the day and we wouldn't be able to get home (which didn't happen).
It was slick going to OP until about Garden City, but then the roads were pretty good. We took the kids to Burger King on 135th where they have a playground which was a hit. We then went to the Todds and unloaded their things, put Garrison down for a nap, and got Peyton ready for piano lessons.
I was privileged to get to take Peyton to her piano lesson and best of all to hear her play!!!!! She is good!!!! I was so impressed with Miss Heather, her teacher, and her positive approach, and to how Peyton listens to her and plays quite well, with both hands together after only a few months. She is doing so well! I loved it. I recorded it on my phone and played it for Grandpa and will for Grammaw tomorrow.
Amanda came home early from work so we could get on the road earlier (thank you), and we had a good time Visiting with her a bit before heading home with a car full of Girl Scout cookies which Peyton had sold to Clinton friends and family.
Priceless weekend full of fun and memories. We are blessed.

Warm February Weekend 2015
We have been blessed with a very mild winter, and this week was no exception - except for a very, very cold Thursday!
Mom continued her cardiac rehab three times a week at the hospital and has added walking on the treadmill at our house the "other" days. She's doing great - no heart problems for almost 4 weeks now. God is good.
I made the kids giant valentine sugar cookies this year (at least 6" tall) with their names on them - I as pretty pleased with the way they turned out.
On Saturday, Ron and I went to Overland Park for the day. It was a beautiful, unusually warm day, so we played outside with the kids quite a bit, went to Peyton's school playground, and the guys went to the Golf Show. We all went to lunch at The Blue Moose, and then we came home.
After returning to Clinton, Ron and I went out to eat at the new R Restaurant with our Supper Club - delicious buffet with ribs, shrimp and fried chicken. A good time visiting with friends.
We are blessed.
