It's been a whirlwind 30 days! Ron continues radiation daily - Mike Edgett has taken him about once a week, and Dennis Sieger has taken him a few times, but other than that, I go with him. 13 more!!!
We watched a few Regulators games - end of the Spring/Summer baseball season. We enjoyed the games and the boys - Chad is the coach for Garrison's team. Garrison pitched (was the star pitcher for the team), played catcher and occasionally first base and shortstop. Fun times.
Gary and Denise Cover invited us to their lake home for overnight July 11-12. We had a great time swimming in their pool and hanging out with them - good food and good friends.
Amanda/family had a short vacation planned to Seattle in late July. Chad developed a non-life-threatening blood clot and was unable to fly per doctor's orders, so it was Grammy to the rescue - I went in his place!!!! It was pure heaven getting to spend 5 days with Amanda, Peyton and Garrison by myself. I drove to a hotel by the airport Wednesday night. The shuttle took me to meet them at the airport at 5:30 am. - Alaska Airlines - and we flew to Seattle. Because of COVID restrictions, had to wear a mask from the time we walked into the airport until we walked out of the Seattle airport. Amanda rented a car, and we were on our way to 5 days of fun!!!! We ate at 3 Thai restaurants - the kids love dumplings, etc. - went hiking at Desperation Point - went shopping - went to the T-Mobile headquarters for a tour - attended a Mariner's Baseball game, sitting in the T-Mobile suite with a full buffet provided. We were the only 4 in the suite, so we had plenty of food and great seats. Amanda was great navigating us around Seattle, and the weather was perfect - 75 degrees, sunny with no humidity. I flew home by myself with the kids on Sunday, the hotel shuttle picked us up, and we spent the night at the hotel before I took them home on Monday, then on to Clinton. It was a fabulous trip. We went to Pike's Market, took a narrated harbor tour and rode the world's largest Ferris wheel. Garrison and I joked it was a 5 day birthday party for us.
I turned 66 and Garrison turned 10 on July 29. We went to Overland Park on Saturday, July 30 - took him his gifts and out to First Watch for brunch - his choice. Took him a chocolate chip cookie cake - a baseball - by request. Amanda baked and decorated his "Baby Yoda" cake for his Kid Birthday Party, held at Urban Air for 14 kids, Peyton and 2 friends, this year.
Because Ron is in radiation, we had an abbreviated summer trip with this year - labeled a Staycation for one night at the Drury Inn in Overland Park with the kids. We picked them up after radiation Monday morning - went to Smiley's in Lenexa to play miniature golf, then to lunch at Wahlburger's - then to Coldstone Creamery for an ice cream treat - then to the hotel to swim and to have dinner at the hotel. We played Crazy 8's and watched the Olympics on tv - gymnastics. Ron went to radiation first thing on Tuesday - we had breakfast at the hotel - played Crazy 8's and volleyball with a beachball in the room - did a little shopping - lunch at Panera (their choice) - then we took them home. A fun, fun time.
We are blessed - God is good.
